Term 2 in Full Swing
Dear Shiloh Community,
We are well into Term 2 and the energy around Shiloh continues to grow. It has been wonderful to see our students rise to new challenges this term, both in and out of the classroom. From the triathlon at Mkushi Dam to the art room and music room, our students are showing us every day what it means to be a 4-in-1 student. We have much to look forward to in the weeks ahead, including Tag Rugby, Athletics Day, and our Ndubaluba camp. Thank you, as always, for your continued support and encouragement.
Mkushi Dam Triathlon — 16 May 2026
What an event! On 16 May, our students took on the ultimate three-discipline challenge at Mkushi Dam, swimming, cycling, and running their way through a truly memorable morning. The setting was spectacular, the effort was extraordinary, and the spirit was everything we could have hoped for. A huge thank you to Mr Clyde Moodley for organising a wonderfully run event that the whole community could enjoy. Well done to every single participant.
We Jamming!
Music at Shiloh is very much alive. These young musicians clearly have no shortage of confidence or enthusiasm, and we love every moment of it.
Young Engineers at Work
Our students have been getting hands-on with Lego robotics this term, building motorised machines and learning the fundamentals of engineering, problem-solving, and creative thinking. Watching them tinker, test, and troubleshoot is a wonderful reminder that some of the best learning happens with your hands. The concentration, the collaboration, and the delight when a machine finally works, it is exactly what education should look like.
Grade 5 Novel Presentations
Our Grade 5 students have been showcasing their novel reading this term, standing up in front of their peers to present and discuss their books. Public speaking takes courage, and it has been wonderful to see these students grow in confidence as they share their stories. Well done to all of them.
Sport in Motion
From cross-country runs through the bush to hockey practice at golden hour, sport at Shiloh is something special. There are no tartan tracks or manicured pitches here, just open ground, fresh air, and students giving everything they have. It is exactly the kind of sport that builds character.
Sportsperson of the Week
Chileleko Makukisi
Congratulations to Chileleko Makukisi on being named Sportsperson of the Week! Chileleko has shown outstanding commitment, effort, and sportsmanship, the kind of attitude that inspires those around them. Well done, Chileleko, keep it up!
Inside My Mind — The Shiloh Sistine Chapel
Inspired by Michelangelo's famous Sistine Chapel ceiling, our Grade 3 students took on a wonderfully creative PSHE challenge this term. With paper taped to the underside of their desks, they lay on the floor and drew their interpretation of the theme "Inside My Mind", exploring creativity as a tool for healthy mental wellbeing. The results were as unique and colourful as the children themselves. It is exactly the kind of learning that stays with you.
Mini Beasts and Big Words!
Our ELC learners are deep into their Mini Beast theme this week, and grasshoppers are taking centre stage! Our sound of the week is G, and the children have been learning the insect rhyme with enormous enthusiasm. Ask them to show you what they know, because they are very eager to share!
The class has been exploring the parts of an insect and are proudly using some wonderfully big vocabulary. We are incredibly impressed by how quickly they have taken to it.

The Importance of Failure
Why letting children struggle is one of the greatest gifts we can give them
Everybody fails. Every single one of us, at some point, has fallen short of what we hoped for. And yet, failure remains one of the most misunderstood and undervalued experiences in a young person's life.
One of the most important shifts we can make, as parents, teachers, and students, is in how we talk about failure. The difference between "I can't do it" and "I can't do it yet" is enormous. That one small word carries with it a belief that growth is still possible, that the story is not over, that the next attempt is worth making. It is the foundation of a resilient mindset.
Resilience is not something we are born with. It is built, one difficult moment at a time. Every time a child gets something wrong and chooses to try again, they are laying down another brick in the wall of their character. They are learning that difficulty is not a signal to stop, but an invitation to dig deeper.
There is also something else worth remembering. When we work hard for something, when we earn it through effort and persistence, we appreciate it far more than if it had come easily. The student who finally masters a difficult concept after many attempts does not take that knowledge for granted. The athlete who trains through setbacks and eventually performs at their best carries that achievement differently. Struggle gives meaning to success.
